Raised ponds are tactile ponds.

Well designed, a raised pond will enhance the space within which it sits. Badly conceived, a raised pond will look very dated and often downright ugly. Good and excellent examples from the past are obviously worth rebuilding or repairing. In a multi-level garden, a raised pond, as seen from one level, can be incorporated as a level pond on another tier and perhaps perceived as an "in ground" pond from a third. A configuration such as this allows the pond to be appreciated from several perspectives in addition to providing a common theme to each of the levels - highly desirable from a designer's point of view. Considerations for child safety or fish display (Koi carp) may inform the decision to design and build (or keep) a raised pond.
