Boardwalk design

Wetland habitat is interesting, valuable and can be very attractive. In order to appreciate, at close quarters, the fauna and flora found (or planted) in boggy ground, it is necessary to build some sort of "dry-shod" access. Construction of a timber boardwalk, hovering over the wetland, is an ideal solution as its impact on the environment in which it sits is minimal. In man-made, lined features, the inclusion of a boardwalk through the planted boggy ground at the rim of a pond or lake can also make an interesting addition to the landscape.

Using an adaptation of time-honoured Irish road building techniques, it is also possible to create a mowable grass path in boggy ground.
