Water garden design is probably the single most difficult garden design task to do well. Not only must the designer have complete sympathy with water and how it is best placed to enhance the landscape but a flair for, and a total understanding of, each of the individual elements that combine to create a water garden (See bridges, streams, watercourses, statuary, etc. in the" Our Services "pages). As with all artistic endeavours, the temptation to include every possible "feature" must be avoided at all costs - less is, quite definitely, more. Pastiche rarely works well unless created very "tongue-in-cheek". How many simply ghastly "Japanese" water gardens (or pointless "Monet" bridges) have you seen? We've lost count. A Japanese style water garden can, of course be done well in the UK but not without concentrated effort, understanding and attendant cost. Size is an important consideration since a good water garden needs sufficient space for it to be a garden within a garden. From outside the water garden the whole must appear attractive and inviting and in keeping with its surroundings; from within, it must entrance and delight without a single jarring note.
We make an initial site visit and provide quotations without charge within our water garden design-and-build area of operation (Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire). If you have a project in mind, please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your requirements. We are always delighted to make our water garden design service available to those who are choosing a DIY approach to their project as well as those who want to employ a local contractor and to garden designers, landscape architects and landscapers.
Whether you are considering a small man-made water garden or a converting a three acre, naturally wet, part of your grounds into a water garden; draw on our experience to inform your project. Our water garden design service encompasses the full panoply of design related matters for you, your garden designer or your contractor.
For over forty years we have designed and built water gardens in the gardens and grounds of private clients in Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire. Within this area, our normal area of operation, we make an initial site visit and provide firm quotations without charge.
After our initial site visit and appraisal of the project, an agreed fee may be charged for the design element of the proposed design-and-build works. The fee scale and indeed whether there is a fee at all, depends on the complexity and nature of the scheme.
Design-only commissions are undertaken for a set and agreed fee for both the initial site visit and (after appraisal of the proposed works) for subsequent designs and site visits. We are happy to have as much, or as little, involvement as you desire as the project progresses.
